The captains choose the wrong by not following the rules. He made the ship get too close to shore and the boat to sink. While this was happening he choose the wrong again by not being the last one out of the ship. By the rules he should have let the people go first then he would have gotten out he was the first to go out of the ship. If I were him I would have followed all of the rules. By him not following the rules he was on house arrest.
